What are the main causes of weight gain?
1. Gut weight gain is usually intestinal or adrenal issues.  If we watch three trains enter a tunnel, but see no trains exit the other end of the tunnel, shouldn't we be worried about what is happening in that tunnel?  Our intestines are a 25-foot tunnel.  We should have as many bowel movements per day as we have meals. If not, the colon becomes a congested breeding ground for bacteria, fungi and parasites.  It is important that we keep our colons clean, because "death begins in the colon".

White flour and water can be used to glue paper together.  If we shove white flour and water into a one-inch diameter, 25-foot PVC pipe for a few years, do you think anything would be coming out the other end?  If we shove white flour and liquid into our 25-foot intestines year after year, should we be surprised that they get clogged up?  Wheat flour is white flour - it is not rye flour or rice flour.  The key word to look for on the ingredient label is 100% whole grain flour - without gluten as an ingredient.  If highly heated bread products are a must for you, I recommend Ezekiel sprouted grain bread, tortillas and bagels.  The "staff of life" in days of yore was 100% whole grain cooked on hot bricks at a maximum of 120 degrees.

2. A parasitic infestation causes the body to put on fat, because fat is the body’s preferred place to store toxins such as parasitic excrement.  If our bodies store toxins in muscle, it hurts to move.  If our bodies store toxins in bone, our bones become brittle, and we become fragile.

3. Interference fields, IFs, in the abdominal area, such as an episiotomy, hysterectomy, C-Section, hernea or appendectomy, can cause hormonal and/or intestinal problems resulting in weight gain.

4. Handlebar weight gain is often a sign of hormonal problems.  Make an appointment on my Contact page for testing.  Many pesticides (sprayed on inorganic food) mimic estrogen and are therefore stored in estrogen receptors.  These must be changed out for plant hormones.  Also inorganic chicken and beef are fed lots of synthetic hormones to force growth as much as 25% faster.

5. More calories eaten than used: Cut highly caloric foods with little nutritional value, like flour that is not whole grain and sugars, like corn syrup and white sugar.  It takes 7 seconds for white flour to turn into glucose (sugar) in the stomach.  Consider consuming a cup of (not 100% whole grain) pasta as having the same effect on our bodies as eating the weight of those noodles in white sugar.  Also exercise burns calories; but if we do not feel better after the exercise, the exercise is hurting us more than helping us.  We should not be exercising until our bodies tell us we are ready to do so!

The best and most efficient exercise, particularly for chronically ill people, is a rebounder ($255; bar = $65; shipping $45).  Rebounders are said to be 58% more effective than treadmills.  A rebounder uses acceleration, deceleration and gravity to help every cell in the body flush toxins and increase the white blood cell count - all in only 2 minutes (Rebounding to Better Health by Linda Brooks).  However, I caution you to start slow, e.g., 1 minute per day or less.  The rebounder moves toxins quickly and if your gut and liver are too overloaded to process the released toxins, they will circulate giving you a headache.  The rebounder I prefer and can have drop shipped to you is the Needak, because it has a handle bar and clients test good after jumping on one - not so of other cheaper rebounders.  Rebounding also has been shown to move released toxins from a massage or chiropractic adjustment to the feet, hands and detox organs.

White flour and white sugar are negative foods.  They use up more enzymes and vitamin B than they contain to digest them - depleting our bodies' stores of enzymes and B vitamins.  Further, white flour and white sugar give us a sugar high (rush of quick energy) followed by low energy, making us want more sugar and/or white flour.  Satisfying these sugar cravings can easily lead to and perpetuate a low pH, coupled with candida, a living organism that eats and craves sugar.  Further, an acidic pH invites parasites and bacteria.

A disordered gut, including IBS, Crohns and celiacaccording to many excellent alternative practitioners, began and is perpetuated by parasites in the gut - usually ameoba and/or giardia.  There is now a new DNA test available at some labs which is showing parasites in the gut much more easily than before.  Make an appointment on my Contact page to see what your body wants to help it get back to normal - even being able to eat pesticide free wheat again.  Testing to be allergic to wheat often simply means the inorganic wheat in the test vial had been sprayed with pesticides.  Skin problems are usually a gut problem, while allergies are usually a liver problem.

For constipation or diarrhea, see these topics on the Q&A page.

Acid Reflux:

When we cook food, all minerals and most of the B vitamins leach into the water; and all enzymes are destroyed.  Thus if all of our meal is cooked, we must use up our hydrochloric acid, HCL ($13.95), to digest our food.  Hydrochloric acid is our natural anti-infectant.  We use up 1/3 of our life span if we eat cooked food daily.  Thus we must take HCL capsules to help us digest our food.  Take a good, complete digestive enzyme with each cooked food meal, like PRL's Q. Digest ($24.95).  And take HCL with potassium as an activator, like PRL's HCL Activator ($19.95) daily if you are over 40 or with each animal protein meal.

Our digestive tracks are like an automotive assembly line.  If the car frame is not completed properly and on time, there is no place to put the wheels or doors - and we have a very strange looking car indeed.  If our stomachs do not break up our food, the duct to our small intestines does not open.  Our small intestines cannot do their own work and our stomachs' work also for very long without breaking down themselves.  This leaves the food in our small intestines not small enough for the blood to pick up and take  to the cells - resulting in malnutrition, no matter how much or what we eat or weigh.  Thus we are more what we are able to absorb than we are what we eat.

Our bodies know not to open the duct to the small intestines if the food is not broken up, so we either throw the food back up or the food sits in our stomachs and rots until the rotting mess oozes into our small intestines.  Rotting food produces lactic acid (quite another thing than hydrochloric acid).  It is this lactic acid that is acid reflux.  When we take pills to quash acid, we quash both lactic acid and any hydrochloric acid we may have left.

Low stomach acidity (HCL) means low life-sustaining methyl groups.  HCL is trimethylglycene, which means HCL contains three methyl groups.  We can replace our methyl groups and extend our lives by taking HCL with a potassium activator.Take 1 to 3 HCL and 1 HCL Activator with each meal.  A beet form of HCL, like PRL's, tests to work much better than synthetic HCL.  Read the label.  It takes thirty-six 1/4 teaspoon capsules to replace all of the hydrochloric acid in a person that has used up all of their HCL.  However, many people who have acid reflux, have trouble taking HCL.  It is necessary for these people to calm down their stomachs first.  Stomach Complex can often do that.  But if an individual has an interference field reflecting to his or her stomach, the interference field will need to be identified and mudpacked before this individual will be able to take HCL.

AM SMOOTHIES:

Clients who use a 6 to 15 oz. a.m. smoothies report more energy or sustained energy, better sleep, lower blood pressure and better bowel movements.  Super food smoothies can be an excellent healing choice because:

1.  Chronically ill people are often unable to eat raw food without upset, and occasionally are unable to take herbs.  But they are able to drink raw  super foods with very good results.
2.  Smoothies are three times more effective than thoroughly chewing raw food, because particularly if our guts are compromised we are unable to break down raw food well enough for our bodies to receive full benefit from the food.
3.  Using super food smoothies to heal is about 1/3 the price of using super herbs, but super foods do take 2 to 3 times as long to help us heal.

I have found that Costco veggies and fruit (except strawberries - which you should always buy organic) test really good 99% of the time.  Incidentally Costco's brand meat also test good, but buy your farm raised fish at Whole Foods.  The veggies and fruit in the oriental market here in Austin also test good about 95% of the time.  Other than those markets - and of course Whole Foods - I do not recommend any markets or foods that are not organic.  IF YOU ARE DIABETIC OR HYPOGLYCEMIC, use veggies only, do NOT put fruit in your smoothie - and that includes berries.  Use a 2, or preferably a 3, horsepower blender - from Blendtex or Vitamix; but I do have a couple of clients that use a Magic Bullet.

.

So what should go in the smoothie?  Well, most Americans have a liver that needs help, and the best way to help it is with 2 - 3 stalks of asparagus - the food with the most glutathione to assist liver detox.

What's next?  Well, what on your body is asking for help?  But first, be sure to add 3/4 to 1 cup of water and 3/4 to 1 cup of ice.

1.  2 - 5 teaspoons of black sesame seeds (in oriental markets) has been shown to build bone at least 5% per year.  3 - 4 square inches of kelp QRA tests to be as effective as black sesame.  Vitamins C and D are also needed to build bone.  Use 1 teaspoon of cod liver oil and 1/4 teaspoon of camu berry powder (8 oz. @ $37.98).

2.  If you are tired alot, bolster your adrenals with asparagus, black sesame or a 1/3 inch slice of avocado.  A small handful of goji berries (16 oz. @ $21.95) also helps with energy.  If you like fruit - and you are not diabetic or hypoglycemic - you can add grapefruit or lime with just the colored part of the skin pealed off.

3.  Depression is generally a liver issue, but it is important to note that Brazil nuts are the food with the most seratonin.  Add 1 - 4 Brazil nuts to your smoothie.  I hate to tell you this, but I have tested bad Brazil nuts in with good ones - even at Whole Foods.  Thus buy Brazil nuts with the shell on.  It is much safer.  Four walnut halves will give you the goodness of one Brazil nut, which is probably cheaper and safer.

The brain is also energized with 1/2 teaspoon of acai berry powder (8 oz. @ $39.95).  Mulberries are a sweet, slightly crunchy snack and are great to mix with pine nuts or walnuts (16 oz. @ $22.98).  Mulberries, like camu berry powder, acai berry powder and pomegranate powder, are super antioxidants.  But mulberries are supercharged with resveritrol, which upgrades other anti-oxidants.  Walnuts have the most Omega 3.

4.  The kidneys really like black beans and kidney beans cooked on low heat (in a slow cooker or on #1 - 2 on the burner for several hours).  But the kidneys also really like asparagus, black sesame and avocado in a smoothie.

5.  The thyroid is helped with kelp, wakame or 8 - 15 stems (& leaves) of cilantro.

6.  The stomach really likes a thin slice of ginger or 1/4 teaspoon of Yamabuki miso (in oriental stores).  Or you can just eat a little fermented food (like Kim-Chi by Rejuvenitive Foods) with each meal.

7.  The best thing to move lymph, e.g., swollen ankles and feet, is with a rebounder or a Chi Machine, but goji berries (16 oz. @ $21.95) will also help, and so will black fungus mushrooms (at oriental markets) and shitake mushrooms.  Saute/steam mushrooms lightly, and pour them over your veggies or meat.

8.  Help out your heart with 2 - 3 stalks of celery.  2 tablespoons of POM pomegranate juice has been shown to lower blood pressure 20% in 1 year.  You can also use 1/2 teaspoon of Pomegranate powder (8 oz. for $21.98).  Black Fungus and shitake mushrooms, as well as black sesame also help out the heart.

9.  Help diabetes with 3 - 5 of the red stems of chard or 2 - 3 inches of bitter melon (in oriental markets).

10.  A 3/4 inch slice of turmeric will help infection - if you can find fresh turmeric.  Try Whole Foods and oriental markets.  Colds are helped by 1/4 teaspoon of camu berry powder (8 oz. for $37.98) or a small handful of goji berries (16 oz. for $21.95).

11.  The sexual organs are energized with 2 - 3 teaspoons of maca powder (16 oz. for $24.95).

12.  For the frail or just to aid muscle tone add maca powder, goji berries, and/or mulberries.

13,  If you do NOT have diabetes or hypoglycemia, you can add 1/2 to 1 Fuji apple to sweeten your smoothie.

Skin and lung problems:

When our main detoxification organs, the liver and large intestines, become dysfunctional, our bodies begin to detox more heavily through our secondary detox organs, the kidneys, skin and lungs.  Our kidneys are more fragile than our livers. Overload can lead to kidney failure.  Our skin breaks out when it is overloaded, and we have breathing difficulties when our lungs are overloaded.  Thus, skin and lung problems usually begin as liver and/or intestinal problems and are not normally permanently resolved without resolving the liver and/or intestinal problem.  Therefore, helping our bodies heal our livers helps our bodies heal our lungs (See Depression Heading.), and helping our bodies heal our intestines helps our bodies heal our skin.

Parasites are the most common problem of the liver and large intestines.  Parasites have become common because of the Standard American Diet, which is its acronym -SAD. Parasites inhabit the intestines, liver, gallbladder, pancreas and spleen, making these organs environmentally friendly to bacteria and fungi (candida), which makes us crave protein and/or sugar.

Parasites cause symptoms ranging from nail biting, fatigue, indigestion, nausea, skin rash, puffy face, nervousness and irritability to teeth grinding, chronic sleeplessness (especially in the early morning), ear infections, nightmares, shortness of breath, dysfunctional bowels, mental fog, blurred vision and learning problems.  Parasites are most often acquired by eating food prepared by infected food handlers who did not wash their hands sufficiently before preparing the food.

When we eat a lot of acidic food, mainly flour that is not whole grain and white sugar as well as meat, our bodies quickly use up the HCL in our stomachs, along with enzymes, minerals and B vitamins.  When our stomachs lose their acidity, not only are our stomach unable to digest food as efficiently, resulting in acid indigestion and reflux, our stomachs then cannot kill parasites.

All hydrogenated oils are transfats, but not all transfats are hydrogenated oils.  All hydrogenated oils are bad, but not all transfats are bad.  Thus, the big, bad wolf is hydrogenated oil - not transfats.  Hydrogenated oil inhibits essential enzyme functions and blocks good prostaglandin production by good fats.  Also cell walls made of hydrogenated oil are less permeable, so less nutrient can get in and less waste can get out - causing a toxic overload and starving cells.  Starving cells wallowing in their own waste are easy prey to viruses, fungi, bacteria and parasites.  This is why most adults need to take out (with mud packs) more than they need to put in (with nutritious food and herbs).  Further, cell walls made of hydrogenated oil are not smooth.  Our bodies respond to rough cell walls by raising LDLs to patch the rough areas so that our precious red blood cells will not get punctured.

The brain is 60% fats/oils.  Hydrogenated oil makes poor neurotransmitters, providing shoddy transmission from, for example, the visual cortex to the memory or speech areas of the brain.  The DHA in Omega 3 oil is used mainly to make the tiny neurotransmitters in the brain.  The elderly and growing bodies need Omega 3 oils high in DHA.

Each and every cell wall in our bodies, particularly our hearts, use mostly EPAALA is the vegetable form of Omega 3, found most abundantly in flax seed oil.  Our bodies use up enzymes when they must convert ALA to EPA, losing about 67% in the process.  We then need even more enzymes to convert EPA to DHA - with about 40% lost in the conversion.  That is why it takes a tablespoon of flax seed oil to equal one teaspoon of an animal source of Omega 3s - a good cod liver oil.

We only get enzymes from raw food.  If we do not eat much raw food, our bodies cannot convert ALA into EPA or DHA.  But the biggest downside of flax seed oil is:  If we have eaten hydrogenated oil within the last six months - and most of us have if we have dined out - our bodies convert ALA into arachnidonic acid (which means we might as well have eaten butter or lard, because we got no Omega 3s).  Arachnidonic acid is the fats found in butter, which incidentally is much better for us than hydrogenated oil.   The arachnidonic acid in animal fat is mainly bad for us if we eat so many carbohydrates that our bodies never get around to burning the animal fat as fuel.  Thus those of us who do not exercise regularly should avoid animal fat.  Circulating arachnidonic acid is LDLs, high cholesterol.

Cod liver oil is the best source of Omega 3s.  Cod liver oil really is brain and skin food - and it raises HDLs (PRL cod liver oil $14.95, 8 oz.; $15.95, 150 caps, 3 per day).  Nordic Naturals brand has liquid cod liver oil that tests good and has an excellent tasting orange flavor ($21.95, 8 oz.).  Nordic Naturals also have lemon or strawberry flavored capsules ($48.95, 120 caps, 1 a day).  Just put 1/2 teaspoon (per 60 pounds of body weight) of cod liver oil in 1/4 cup of orange juice in a container with a lid.  Shake and drink.

Adults should take one teaspoon or 1,000 milligrams of Omega 3s daily.  Notice that I did not say 1,000 milligrams of cod liver oil daily.  Some manufacturers of cod liver oil add cheaper Omega 6s, so that it takes two to three teaspoons to make 1,000 mg. of Omega 3s, instead of one teaspoon.  Also check labels to make sure you only buy pharmaceutical grade cod liver oil with no heavy metals, dioxins or PCBs, and do not buy Omega 3 oils on sale. These bottles have probably been sitting on the shelf long enough to be partially oxidized.  Eating partially oxidized oil uses up our antioxidants.

The amount of antioxidants in our food has dropped 50% in the last twenty five years.  Antioxidants are used all over the body, but particularly by the brain, heart and eyes.  A lack of antioxidants promotes neurodegeneration.  Foods high in antioxidants are red, blue and purple, but these foods are often highly pesticide sprayed - buy organic.  If you cannot buy organic, I have found that Costco fruits and veggies almost always test good.  In fact most of their meats also test good.  Their farm raised fish and organic hamburger meat, however, does not test good.    Buy your farm raised fish at Whole Foods.  It does test good.  I have also had very good luck with fruits and veggies in large oriental markets. Daily taking at least a teaspoon of acai or POM 100% pomegranate juice delivers sufficient antioxidants for the average person.  It takes as much as a cup of other brands to hold strong what 1/2 teaspoon of PRL pomegranate juice or 1 teaspoon of POM pomegranate juice will QRA test to hold.

Omega 6s and Omega 9s are mainly used for cardiovascular and immune system health as well as energy metabolism.  Omega 3s go bad faster than Omega 6s.  Thus Omega 3s are refrigerated and sold in dark containers.  However, Omega 6s go bad faster than Omega 9s.  When Omega 3s and Omega 6s are cooked, they are molecularly changed into hydrogenated oil.  Thus, we should only cook or eat food cooked in coconut oil or butter.  Coconut oil is anti-infective and  antibacterial; and 1 - 2 teaspoons daily raises metabolism (More than that will put on weight).  If we are cooking on low or #1 on the stove dial we can use olive oil, which is the oil of choice in the highly acclaimed Mediterranean diet.  #1 on the stove generally gets no hotter than 112 to 120 degrees.  However, I recommend the Paleo diet, but if you do not eat raw, take your enzymes and HCL.

Mechanically pressed oil is best.  Some companies chemically extract oil with harmful solvents. Expellier expressed oil often reaches 180 degrees - a nutritional definition of cooked food.  All enzymes are destroyed when cooked.  Oils go bad in light as well as heat.  Thus we should purchase all omega oils in containers we cannot see light through.

Adults need three teaspoons of good oils per day.  Good oils decrease blood clotting, blood pressure, cholesterol and inflammation, while increasing the natural killer cell activity necessary to fight tumors.  Take one teaspoon of cod liver oil, and use olive oil, untoasted or uncooked sesame oil and/or coconut oil on your food.  When you eat out, take either a PRL Brain Complex ($27.95) or a good cod liver oil capsule.  It is a pretty sure bet, the restaurant is not cooking in (more expensive) olive oil.  Your body will opt for the good oil and flush the other.  It takes six months to effect an oil change, so begin to change the quality of the oil you consume now.

Is there a natural insect repellant?
A:  You can make your own insect repellant that is fairly waterproof, will last several hours and is actually good for your body.  Add 10 drops each of PRL's Neem ($14.95) and Carvacrol ($23.95) oils to 2 ounces (or 1/4 cup) of olive oil.  I prefer to also add 10 drops each of eucalyptus, lavendar and tea tree essential oils.  Shake the bottle gently before use, and keep all essential oil bottles tightly capped and out of direct sunlight.  Just rub this combination of oils lightly over exposed areas of your skin.  Flush with water if these oils come in contact with the eyes or genitals.

What is a good remedy for mosquito bites?
A:  Apply lavendar essential oil immediately after the bi te for bug bites other than fire ants.  I know an English naturopath who always carries a botle of lavendar with her when she visits the states, because she is so afraid of black widow spiders.  However, I would apply the lavendar as I was on my way to a hospital.
